CELEBRATING THE KING OF NEW JACK SWING

TEDDY’S OTHER GROUPS

We also gotta give the man credit for rocking in not one, not two, but three groups within the 90s.

Wreckx-n-Effect x “Rump Shaker” & “New Jack Swing”

I’m still not certain whether Teddy was an official member of Wreckx-n-Effect. I think no. I think it was actually always meant to be a duo with Teddy’s brother and the other one (because as much as I loved these two joints , I definitely never bothered to learn their names). “Rump Shaker” is the hit (and the other song that’s actually a Pharrell production story), but “New Jack Swing” is my fave. And it’s one of the most New Jack Swing videos ever.

Blackstreet “Before I Let You Go”

The Blackstreet story is a common one as groups go, with lead singers breaking out for solo careers and coming back when the solo careers stalled, lost trademarks (Teddy currently performs with Dave Hollister and two singers as BS2. Chauncy Black holds the “Blackstreet” trademark)

“No Diggity”

Teddy claims the group didn’t believe in the song, which is why they had him take the lead verse. But he credits Styles Stewart with the overall genius of the song, since the writer suggested the “Grandma’s Hands” sample.

“Don’t Leave”

Shout out to Debarge publishing checks.

BONUS: The Classical Two “Rap’s New Generation”

This was one of Teddy’s earliest production credits — if not the earliest, and you can hear the beginnings of the Teddy sound.
