#MusicSermon’s three central sermons from hip-hop’s Golden Age (late 80s — early 90s)
In preface to this Sermonic Trilogy I need to echo a point made it one of the sermons below, as it’s a through-line through not just all three of these conversations, but a key aspect to the growth of hip-hop overall: rap music and crime, poverty and drugs cannot be separated. Without them there IS no hip-hop. It was born of that. They influenced each other and eventually financed each other. Conscious hip-hop, Gangsta rap and even NY boom bap were all telling street stories; either how to rise above or how to survive in the midst.
